Alphablock U - FREE PATTERN

 

Free pattern for the Alphablock U. Compare with the Alphablock X to get the idea how to join the sides of the Alphablock (I join the sides with slip stitches). The technique is quite similar.  Subscribe my blog and YouTube.

Abbreviations

• st = stitch
• sl st = slip stitch
• ch = chain
• tch = turning chain (in the end of a row)
• sc = single crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• inc = increase (2 sc in one st)
• hdc inc = half double crochet increase (2 hdc in one st)
• dc inc = double crochet inc (2 dc in one st)
• dec = decrease (sc2tog)
• (..) = repeat the pattern particular number of times
• [..] = complete number of st in the round / row
• rnd = round
• BLO = back loop only
• FLO = front loop only
• MR = magic ring

Materials:

Alize Softy 

  • blue no 40 - 2 skeins
  • turquoise no 364 - 1 skein
  • black - 1 skein
  • white - 2 skeins

YarnArt Jeans: white and black to make the eyes

Crochet hook 2,5 mm 

Crochet hook: 2 mm for the eyes.


Final size: 45 cm with the hat. 


FRONT / BACK

Turquoise no 364; work in rows.

Row 1: ch 26, insert the hook in 2nd chain from the hook and work: 25 sc, 1 tch, turn [25]

Rows 2-10: 25 sc, 1 tch, turn

Change to blue no 40:

Rows 11-20: 25 sc, 1 tch, turn

Change to  turquoise:

Rows 21-30:  25 sc, 1 tch, turn

Change to blue no 40:

Rows 31-40: 25 sc, 1 tch, turn

 




BOTTOM

Turquoise no 364; work in rows.

Row 1:  ch 21, insert the hook in 2nd chain from the hook and work: 20 sc, 1 tch, turn [20]

Rows 2-10: 20 sc, 1 tch, turn

Change to blue no 40:

Rows 11-20: 20 sc, 1 tch, turn

Change to  turquoise:

Rows 21-30:  20 sc, 1 tch, turn

Change to blue no 40:

Rows 31-40: 20 sc, 1 tch, turn

 

SIDE (x 2)

One side is blue and one side is turquoise.

Row 1:  ch 21, insert the hook in 2nd chain from the hook and work: 20 sc, 1 tch, turn [20]

Rows 2-25: 20 sc, 1 tch, turn

 

SIDE (x 2)  

White

Row 1:  ch 21, insert the hook in 2nd chain from the hook and work: 20 sc, 1 tch, turn [20]

Rows 2-27: 20 sc, 1 tch, turn

 

TOP

 White

Insert the hook in the front/back part (you insert the hook in the rows of the front/back part and work veritcally).

Row 1:  ch 41, insert the hook in 2nd chain from the hook and work: 40 sc, 1 tch, turn [40]

Rows 2-27: 40 sc, 1 tch, turn

 

Stuff in the end before you close the opening (when you join the top part).

 



SHOE

Sole

Black

Rnd 1: ch 8, insert the hook in 2nd chain from the hook and work: 6 hdc, 5 hdc in the last stitch, work on the opposite side of the chain: 6 hdc, 3 hdc in the last loop (yes, I mean the loop created by the last chain you worked in the basic chain before you inserted the hook in 2nd chain from the hook) [20]

Rnd 2: 6 hdc, 5 hdc inc, 6 hdc, 3 hdc inc

Rnd 3: 6 hdc, (1 hdc, inc) x 5, 6 hdc, (1 hdc, inc) x 3

Rnd 4: 6 hdc, (2 hdc, inc) x 5, 6 hdc, (2 hdc, inc) x 3 

Fasten off. Cut the felt sole to put inside the shoe (my sole size is 45 mm x 65 mm)



Insert the hook at the centre back (heel). You will change the colors white - black - white in the following rounds.

W - white; B - black

Rnd 5: BLO (back loop only), white 1 sc (heel), 11 sc, black 16 sc, white 11 sc [39]

Rnd 6-7: W 12, B 16, W 11 [39]

Insert the felt sole.

Rnd 8: W 12, black (2 sc, dec) x 2, (dec, 2 sc) x 2, W 11 [35]

Rnd 9: W 12, black 2 sc, dec, 4 sc, dec, 2 sc, W 11 [33]

Rnd 10: W 12, black (1 sc, dec) x 3, 1 sc, W 11 [30]

Rnd 11: W 12, black (1 sc, dec) x 2, 1 sc, W 11 [28]

Rnd 12: W 12, black dec, 1 sc, dec, W 11 [26]

Stuff as you go.

Cut the black. Work with the white yarn:

Rnd 13: 26 sc [26]

Rnd 14: (11 sc, dec) x 2 [24]

Rnd 15: (10 sc, dec) x 2 [22]

Rnd 16: (9 sc, dec) x 2 [20]

Rnd 17: (8 sc, dec) x 2 [18]

Rnd 18: (7 sc, dec) x 2 [16]

Rnd 19: FLO (front loop only), 16 hdc [16]



 I smooth the edge of black color on the tip of the shoes, embroidering the black yarn (horizontal stitches) along the black edge using tapestry needle.
 

Then in BLO you will crochet blue LEGS in rnds 1-12: 16 sc [16] 


Sew the legs

 

Embroider the lacing with black yarn. 

HAND (x2)

You crochet 2 hands = one is blue and one is turquoise.

Thumb (make 2 )

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnds 2-3: 6 sc [6]
Cut the yarn.

Left hand

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 [24]
Rnds 5-7: 24 sc [24]
Rnd 8: (10 sc, dec) x 2 [22]
Now join the thumb:
Rnd 9: 3 sc hooking through the stitches of thumb (inner part) and the stitches of hand, 7 sc, dec, 10 sc [21]
Rnd 10: 3 sc crocheting around the unworked sts of the thumb, 18 sc [21]
Rnd 11: 10 sc, dec, 9 sc [20]
Rnd 12: 20 sc [20]
Rnd 13: (8 sc, dec) x 2 [18]
Rnd 14: 18 sc
Rnd 15: (1 sc, dec) x 6 [12]
Rnd 16-32: 12 sc [12]

Right hand

Rnd 1-8: the same pattern as for the left hand.

Now join the thumb:
Rnd 9: 10 sc, dec, 7 sc, 3 sc hooking through the stitches of thumb (inner part) and the stitches of hand [21]
Rnd 10: 18 sc, 3 sc crocheting around the unworked sts of the thumb [21]
Rnd 11: 9 sc, dec, 10 sc [20]
Rnd 12-32: the same pattern as for the left hand.

 

EYE

Crochet hook 2 mm, YarnArt Jeans; 

White:

Rnd 1:  ch 3, insert the hook in 2nd chain from the hook and work: (1 sc, 3 sc in the last st) x 2 [8]

Rnd 2: (1 sc, 3 inc) x 2 [14] 

Rnd 3: 1 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 3, 1 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 3 [20] 

Rnd 4: 1 sc, (2 sc, inc) x 3, 1 sc, (2 sc, inc) x 3 [26] 

Black (Pupil):

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]

Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]

Sew the pupil to the eye and embroider the reflexion with white yarn.


I embroidered the sketch of the glasses with contrasting yarn before I sewed the eyes

CAP

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]

Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]

Then crochet the VISOR x 2 (cut the piece of felt to put inside the visor to stiffen):

To make the visor work in rows: crochet 30 ps through 18 rows. 

Work 1 turning chain in the end of every row and turn.







I joined two parts of the visors with sl stitches and sewed the felt to the visors to keep it in place.

Pin the cap before sewing and stuff before you close the opening.


"U" LETTER

part 1 (bend stripe on the left): 

Row 1: ch 26, insert the hook in 2nd chain and work 25 sc

Row 2: 25 sc

part 2 (vertical stripe on the right): 

Row 1: ch 19, insert the hook in 2nd chain and work 18 sc
Row 2: 18 sc
 



Glasses, nose and mouth are embroidered. For the teeth I used white Yarnart Jeans and finally I needle felted it a bit with white felting wool.

Spectacle temples - crochet ch 15 to make the temples and sew it to the Alphablock glasses.

Sew the limbs to the body, the letter U and embroider the face detail.
 

Alphablock U is finished :)
