CUTIES - Sophia the owl FREE PATTERN

Hello :-) I present you the next cutie - Sophia the owl. As the original owl, she doesn't have the legs and ears/tassels, but you can add them as you wish :-) Share the pattern with your friends and followers, if you like and SUBSCRIBE my YouTube channel and blog ;-) Have a nice crocheting!

The body is based on the basic pattern for cutie I showed you here for Boris the beaver pattern:
see more: Boris the beaver FREE PATTERN.
For the body I used Alize Softy (white color) and YarnArt Mink (grey color); crochet hook 2.5 mm.
To obtain the same size as for Boris the beaver, I crochet the stitches strictly because I use fluffy yarns and the gauge should be adjusted. Try to adjust it to your size.

Let me remind you of the initial pattern:

HEAD & BODY

White Alize Softy, crochet hook 2.5 mm.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rnd 4: (1 sc, inc, 1 sc) x 6 [24]
Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 [30]
Rnd 6: (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) x 6 [36]
Rnd 7: (5 sc, inc) x 6 [42]
Rnd 8: (3 sc, inc, 3 sc) x 6 [48]
Rnd 9: (7 sc, inc) x 6 [54]
Rnd 10: (4 sc, inc, 4 sc) x 6 [60]
Rnd 11: (9 sc, inc) x 6 [66]
Rnd 12: (5 sc, inc, 5 sc) x 6 [72]

Change yarn - grey YarnArt Mink
Rnds 13-25: 72 sc [72]
Rnd 26: (5 sc, dec, 5 sc) x 6 [66]
Rnd 27: (9 sc, dec) x 6 [60]
Rnd 28: (4 sc, dec, 4 sc) x 6 [54]
Rnd 29: (7 sc, dec) x 6 [48]
Rnd 30: (3 sc, dec, 3 sc) x 6 [42]
Rnd 31: (5 sc, dec) x 6 [36]
Rnd 32: (2 sc, dec, 2 sc) x 6 [30]
Rnd 33: (3 sc, dec) x 6 [24]
Rnd 34: (1 sc, dec, 1 sc) x 6 [18]
Rnd 35: (1 sc, dec) x 6 [12]
Rnd 36: 6 dec [6]

Fasten off, close the opening and weave in yarn ends.

WING (make 2)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rnd 4: 3 sc,  then repeat 3 times the following pattern: 1 sc, 1 hdc, (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in one st, 1 hdc
At the end work 3 sc.
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Sew the wings on both sides of the owl's body.

BEAK

YarnArt Jeans - yellow color, crochet hook 2 mm.

Work in magic ring: 3 sc, 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc, 3 sc [10]
Fasten off.
Now you can make the edging with black thread and crochet hook 1 mm (in the similar way to the edging of the eyes). Work 1 increase in each stitch.
Sew the beak.

TAIL

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) x 3 [9]
Rnd 3: (2 sc, inc) x 3 [12]
Rnd 4-5: 12 sc [12]

Flat the tail in half. Close the opening by working 6 sc hooking through the opposite stitches.
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Triangle on the forehead [update]:

Divide the head vertically in half and count 4 stitches from both sides of the symmetry line to mark placement of the triangle.

Turn the owl upside down and start crocheting in the rows - don't crochet 1 turning chain at the end of the row.

In row 1 crochet under stitches of the first round in grey color (rnd 13 of head).
Row 1: 8 sc, turn [8] (no turning chain)
Row 2: dec, 4 sc, dec, turn [6] (no turning chain)
Row 3: 6 sc, turn [6] (no turning chain)
Row 4: dec, 2 sc, dec, turn [4] (no turning chain)
Row 5: 2 dec, turn [2] (no turning chain)
Row 6: dec [1]
Fasten off and sew to the head.

To remind you how to crochet eyes, look at the pattern below:

EYE (make 2)

Version 1 - flat

Crochet hook 2 mm.
Start from the pupil (black yarn)  and then we change color to crochet iris.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in MR [8]
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) x 4 [12]
Rnd 3: 1 sc, inc, (1sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in one st, inc, 1 sc, change color: (1 sc, inc) x 3, 1 sc.
Fasten off (I do invisible finish), weave in yarn ends.

I work edging using black thin thread and crochet hook 1 mm (if you want to make black frame for the eyes, as in the original cutie creature). I work 2 sc in each stitch.
Finally I embroider white reflections in the centre of each eye.

Version 2 - 3D eyes

If you want to make 3D eyes, you may use safety eyes.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rnds 4-6: 18 sc [18]
Rnd 7: (1 sc, dec) x 6 [12]
Rnd 8: 6 dec [6]

Look at this cute owl. She's so soft :-)
I recommend you to crochet her as soon as possible and hug, hug, hug ;-):
